Special Season 3 Is Renewed or Cancelled? What Will Happen Next?

The popular American TV series is full of comedy and entertainment. It successfully captivates its viewer’s attention with its enthralling and heart-touching plot. “I’m Special: And other lies we Tell Ourselves” is a memoir by the Special series’ protagonist and creator, Ryan O’ Connell, that provided the source material for the development of the series.

The production companies associated with the production of ‘Special’ include Campfire, Stage 13, That’s Wonderful Productions, and Warner Bros. Television. On the other hand, its executive producers comprise renowned names like Jim Parsons, Ryan O’ Connell, Anna Dokoza, Eric Norsoph, etc.

Special is a perfect combination of comedy, struggles, and inspiration. Ryan O’ Connell received the Writers Guild of America Award in 2020 for creating “Special.” The comedy series also got nominations for GLAAD Media Awards and Primetime Emmy Awards for its cast’s outstanding performance and comedy.

On Rotten Tomatoes, ‘Special’ earned an average rating of 7.29 out of 10 established on 22 reviews. Metacritic assigned “Generally favorable reviews” to the series ‘Special’. Netflix premiered the first 8 episodes of the first season of ‘Special’ on 12 April 2019, while the second season with eight episodes was released on 20 May 2021.

Most of the fans complained about the 15 minutes runtime of the episodes, as they wanted to watch more of the entertaining comedy. Special Season 3 Release Date

Season 1 of Special premiered on April 12, 2019, with eight episodes. The series was then renewed for another eight episodes for a second season which was announced as the last season. But because the show was well-received, the short-form comedy was extended from 15-minute to half-hour episodes, which was something O’Connell wanted to do. But it was Netflix’s decision to end the series after two seasons. This has been a common occurrence with other comedies as well including Trinkets and Feel Good.

If Netflix or some other OTT picks up the series Special for a third season, we can have the following cast for it.

• Max Jenkins will act as Tanner in Special Season 3.
• Gina Hughes may portray Samantha, while Buck Andrews may appear as Henry.
• Charlie Barnett may reprise his role as Harrison.
• Ana Ortiz may act as Susan.
• Utkarsh Ambudkar may again appear as Ravi.
• Lauren Weedman may portray Tonya.
• Anjali Bhimani, Ajay Mehta, Karan Soni, Leslie Jordan, and Jeremy Glazer may again be seen in the characters of Bina Laghari, Vijay Laghari, Dev Laghari, Charles, and Marc Miller, respectively.

Special Season 3 What Will Happen Next?

“People will be surprised that Special is ending but this is just the tip!” showrunner O’Connell had told The Hollywood Reporter. “I’m not finished telling stories about disability. I’m not finished telling queer stories. This is really just a beginning of a new chapter, so hang tight, baby, I’m coming!” But his stories will, unfortunately, not be under the title of Special for Netflix. He added, “Creatively, they’ve been dream partners and [let me] make exactly the show that I wanted to make. I’d rather make two seasons of television that are exactly my vision rather than four seasons where I felt like I was making creative compromises. I feel very fortunate for that.” He had earlier planned for three seasons.

Netflix probably canceled the show based on internal viewing metrics in comparison to the cost of doing additional seasons. O’Connell also explained, “Netflix told me pretty early on that it was going to be the final season and I appreciated that because I was able to craft a season that felt very much like a final season. The story will feel complete.” With the extended episodes, we hopefully got to see everything he wanted to tell us.

Special Season 3 – The Plot

Special is a unique series that portrays the real struggles of a gay man named Ryan Hayes. He has a condition called cerebral palsy, and therefore he hesitates to mix with others and searching partners for himself. But later, he decides to recreate himself and follow his dreams.

Special shows the struggles and hardships that a person with some disability faces. The series gives a powerful message of not discriminating against anyone because he belongs to the LGBTQ community or has some disability.

So far, we have not received any trailer associated with Special Season 3. Unfortunately, it is hardly possible to come shortly as Netflix has canceled the series.
